About the event
This is not just another book launch!
When you meet me you will quickly learn that I am extra and that there was no way I was going to hold a simple book signing. Come prepared for a party to launch book two in the Alora Factor series, “Past Prologue,” at Sweet Vines Farms. Dress to impress and don’t forget to bring your book for signing!
Event Overview
Prepare to sip wine and take in beautiful Orange County, Virginia as you meet me and we talk about your favorite characters from the Alora Factor series. You have your choice between two ticket packages:
1. The e-book of Alora Factor: Invasion of the Realm Jumpers (book 1), the paperback of Alora Factor: Past Prologue (book 2), wine tasting and popcorn pairing. $50
2. Paperbacks of both Alora Factor Books 1 & 2, wine tasting and popcorn pairing. $60
Your copy of book 1 will ship immediately after purchase so you’ll have an opportunity to read it and participate in the afternoon’s theme: dressing in the color that represents your favorite lead character. There are three leads and if you’re looking for a hint (so you can start prepping that outfit now), their colors are in the cover image.
About the Book
The Factor Family females have protected and sought justice for the marginalized for nearly 200 years.
In book one, it's 13-year-old Alora's turn to join the fight, but between difficult powers, fighting other worldly beings and her bestie's kidnapping, Alora quickly wonders if she's got what it takes.
In book two, Alora and friends, Andrew and Andrea, are now fourteen. They have had just over a year of chasing realm jumpers when they’re not trying to study or have a life. It’s not going well. The demands are near constant, the Triad is becoming exhausted and there’s no end in sight.
The Alora Factor series is based in Hampton, Va, making it an urban fantasy with a touch of magical realism. It is intentionally inclusive and written in “own voices,” meaning I'm Black and I write about Black people.
About the Venue
In 2009, a "Girls Saturday Fun Day" of winemaking in Northern Virginia gave way to a dream that became Sweet Vines Farm! Winemaking has been in owner Seidah Armstrong’s family since the early 20th century. Sweet Vines caters to the fun and creative palate with wine and popcorn pairings and is the perfect place to celebrate the joys of life and friendship!
More About Me
When I was a little girl my father used to make up stories about a character he called Princess Ebony. Princess Ebony was obviously me and I knew that immediately (and you cannot change my mind), but what I didn’t realize then is that he had to craft empowering stories about a young Black girl because they simply didn’t exist.
My first series, Alora Factor, is all of the things I wish I'd had as a child and all the things I want to see when content creators promote diversity and inclusion, but don’t push for a Black female protagonist who is thick and athletic and is a bit of a nerd and has natural hair.
I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with my husband of 27 years, three dogs and one cat when he decides to come home. My two sons live nearby and can usually be found in or around Charlottesville making something delicious.
